Oliver’s Boy Adventure Theme Room Tour

Oliver’s Boy Adventure Theme Room Tour

When I decided to redecorate Oliver’s room from a nursery to a toddler room it kind of happened on a whim.  Ryan was away for work and I just returned home from a long visit with family and facing the fact that Oliver’s toddler bed was just too small for him and it was time to upgrade.  I found his toddler bed on a local online yard sale Facebook group for $5 – a steal!  I painted it an olive green adding plaster of paris to give it a chalk effect, after that the transformation was on.

I picked up his dresser from the side of the road during our local bulk clean up (any DIYer’s Christmas) and painted it white while carrying on the green from his bed inside the drawers.  I just loved the look of this dresser and decided to keep the original brassy handles since it fit in well with the boy adventure theme room idea that I was creating.  Taking a quick trip to Value Village I added a few frames for his dresser and walls.  I scored this beautiful Mickey framed print originally printed in the Netherlands, which I think adds a magical touch to the room.

I finally filled the frames (Value Village) on the opposite wall of his room this weekend, taking me almost a year to complete.  I knew I wanted to do a fun shoot with Oliver playing with his toys and showing his personality with black and white portraits.

Majority of his room is second hand and I absolutely love it.  It fills the entire theme of vintage adventure perfectly and I love that there are so many themes within it.  He not only can be a traveller while playing in his room, he can imagine himself fishing, exploring the wild west, soaring through the skies as an aviator or wherever his big imagination takes him.  This room will carry his exciting adventures until he is a teenager.
